What is the main difference between Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) and Western medicine?

Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) concentrates on the causes of illness within the body. When a person is unwell their body is out of balance.

This balance is referred to as the Yin and the Yang, I am sure you will recognise the symbol for Yin and Yang, it's in our logo.

Traditional Chinese Medicine will use the body's own healing power to cure this imbalance.

The energy that flows within the body is referred to as the "Qi" (pronounced chee).

The TCM Doctor will use Acupuncture and or natural herbs to re-balance the body.

What is this flow of energy called "Qi"?

Traditional Chinese Medicine, (TCM), believes the flow of "Qi", is governed by the time of day, the seasons of the year, the elements, cold, heat, heat, dampness, dryness etc; and by internal factors such as emotions and the careless use of food.

TCM therefore, sees health as a balance in the body of the two opposing forces of Yin and Yang, as this provides for a harmonious and correct flow of "Qi".

TCM considers that an unbalanced diet, lifestyle or environment will disrupt this balance and thus the flow of "Qi". This in turn manifests as the symptoms of the disease.

The aim of the TCM doctor is to restore health by removing the cause and correcting abnormal functions by opposing the imbalance and normalising the flow of "Qi".

How is the body re-balanced?

The Traditional Chinese Medicine Doctor will use natural Herbs, Acupuncture or a combination of both to restore the body's balance.

In order to decide the best course of treatment the Doctor will take your pulse examine your eyes and tongue. This examination takes about 10 minutes at the TCM Clinic Denny and it is free of charge without obligation.

Please note that it is the strictest policy of the company that none of the herbs we use, or parts of the herbs we use, comes from any endangered plant life, and all of the herbs used, have been specially cultivated in China for medical use. No animal part is used in any preparation.

Acupuncture, needles in my body! that has got to hurt. What will it feel like?

Most patients feel nothing at all when the acupuncture needle enters the body, some will describe a slight feeling of pressure. Unlike hypodermic needles, there is no hole in the middle of the sterile stainless steel super thin acupuncture needles, nor do they prick like a needle or pin when being used on some of the 500 or more meridian points on the body.

At the TCM Clinic Denny, all sterile wrapped acupuncture needles are used once only and safely disposed of after use.

The TCM Doctor will use the acupuncture needle on the meridian points in the body. These meridians channel the flow of energy through the body. The Doctor will use the acupuncture needle to encourage a good flow of "Qi". It works by stimulating the healing responses in the body.

You can come in and see us at the TCM Clinic 34, Glasgow Road Denny, Stirling, Scotland and we can answer any other questions you might have or use the "Contact us page".

Traditional Chinese Medicine is new to most people in Scotland, but it is held in high regard by those who have studied, sampled or been cured by it.
